I read that on an interview your supposed to get stuck and show your way out of it. Is this true? If you get asked a lc hard and you get stuck, can you really get out of it in time? How many of you got truly stuck and it felt like it helped you get the job or higher offer? And how many of you got stuck and failed because of it?
Fake it! That’s what she said.
*you’re ffs!!!
He/She is obviously stuck on grammar.
In a FB interview, they gave me a real world problem. I coded up a solution on the whiteboard. My interviewer pointed out a bug in my solution she noticed, it was obvious in retrospect so I felt stupid. But then she told me that it was a bug that nearly made it into production so I didn’t feel as bad. Got the job too. So yeah I would say that they definitely want to know how you react to a challenging problem. But I don’t think you’re ever supposed to actually get “stuck” and be unable to make forward progress. If that ever happens, that’s bad news.
I once got legitimately stuck in an interview question during the “plan things out with rough drawings” portion before writing any code. My solution used one hashmap, but surprise, the real solution needed two. After getting a hint from the interviewer, I totally understood the solution. The interviewer looked at the clock and was like, we have about four minutes left in the interview. How much of this solution can you code? And I swear, I don’t know what happened, but the code flowed through my arm and onto the whiteboard, and I wrote out the complete solution, using both hashmaps, no going back to make edits, and no bugs that the interviewer could find. I finished the whole problem and the interviewer was suuuuper impressed, even though I struggled with the earlier conceptual portion. I got a call that same day that I got the job. I’ve never felt such absolute “flow” during whiteboard coding before, and haven’t since. It was honestly a miracle that happened, and it got me my first job out of college and into Silicon Valley, exactly where I wanted to be.
I see a movie in there somewhere
How you like them apples
I can see that interviewer would want to know how you think when you do get stuck.
