I have been an avid tech industry follower. And been attending conferences for more than a decade. In the last 7 years i also turned into a youtube follower for many of the top channels. I learnt a lot from few of them. However, i see a pattern where mid-level SDEs turn into content creators and leave job for good and change their vision to earning money by creating their own platforms or joining an existing EdTech platform. This is in contrast with renowned architects and tech leaders such as: Werner Vogels Martin Fowler Scott Davis Venkat Subramanyam Rebecca Parsons to name a few. As a software engineer, I now-a-days feel we are taken for granted and people have started using our time and money for their own passive income / growth in the name of sharing and teaching others. Is everyone thinking on the similar lines? This is setting a wrong example for the new generation for creating Youtube content once you start joining a FAANG! Youtubers whom i see have the pattern of moving from Tech space to Building their own brand. Hardly few of them crossed 10+ years in their job and claim to be experts. Most of these folks got laid off or PIPed or left because their passive income started giving more money. Not sure how folks are blindly falling for them! 1. Content creation/influencer crap is like any other market. There will be supply/demand. The market can only support so much. The ones who find a way to maintain their lives sustainably through it - good for them. Not everyone will be able to, but that's the risk whether they realize it or not. Also they are completely at whim of the platform monetization policies, good luck building a small business around that
Of them Clement Mihailescu seems to be the only one to mint millions through his AlgoExpert course subscriptions. I dont think anyone else got the same level of revenues
