Curr: Seattle Microsoft SDE YOE1.5yr PhD (non CS) TC: 210 (120base, 30 bonus, 60 stock) Yugabyte: Base 175K StockOptions: 35K units Loc: Bay area Not sure how to properly evaluate this. VP explained to me that by IPO in 2023-2024, the stock will appreciate to 2.4m if IPO at 3b valuation. Is that believable? Does Yugabyte have really good potential? There are competitors like Cockroach DB, tiDB, and larger scale companies like MongoDB in this distributed DB space, so how likely is YugaB to succeed and IPO at 3B? I have great WLB at Microsoft and am tempted to stay but my TC will go down in 2 years because the refreshers are peanuts #yugabyte #offer
I would ask what's the current price based on the latest round.
Is this VP accounting for dilution? Any additional funding before IPO may (will) result in dilution.

Would they let you keep the stock even if you leave before IPO?
As far as I know, if it’s vested then it’s yours just like every other company. However you can’t open sale in the market because they aren’t publicly traded. You either have to wait for a buy back or the IPO but you should be able to sell it later on even if you aren’t part of the company anymore.
