I received offer from both Zoox and Apple. Apple - Camera HW team Zoox - Advanced HW team (AHE) I’d like to get some input on the work, culture, learning and growth opportunities at Zoox and Apple. According to blind posts, some good people have left Zoox recently after the Amazon acquisition. Can someone from AHE at Zoox comment on this? Which company would you choose given the current state of Zoox. TC at both companies ~$200k MS + 3 YOE #offer #apple #zoox
Most good people are still here.
I think AHE team is still intact after the acquisition. And the camera team has some really good engineers leading the team.

Apple gives annual refreshers of ~$100K RSUs. I doubt Zoox is anywhere close to this.
I’m not in the sensor team, but I know for a fact it is one of the most fun teams to belong to at Zoox + the folks are incredibly smart. You’d be lucky to be a part of it.
I’m in AHE. Having worked on hardware in various industries before joining Zoox, I’d say this is one of the most exciting hardware teams to be on in Silicon Valley — lots of interesting problems to solve and more room for R&D now that we have Amazon funding. We’re lean, move fast and break things, but the bar for quality is high. It’s always rewarding to see our designs end up on vehicles driving around SF, Vegas, etc. Which team on AHE are you considering, exactly?
Considering you are working on self driving cars, isn’t breaking things a bad idea?
Only when they're on fleet vehicles, or EHS is watching.
How are you valuing the equity portion of your offer? There's a lot of uncertainty flying around with what to expect from the SARs... And if your valuing them at 0 with that TC I deserve a raise.
Anyway, AHE is great to work for. Meaningful projects without any micromanagement. Existing AHE leadership is great, and even if some key people end up leaving there are other team members that could step in and I would be pleased with their ability to lead as well(but I don't think they will). With that TC, are you leveled at L3 or L4? If you're at L4, your going to remain at a glass ceiling for a while. If you're at L3 and do a good job, you can likely quickly get L4. I will say, managers in AHE do respect sensible WLB.
I'm in AHE ,I'm not sure people who are telling it's great are even from our team ,AHE all hands people there were so many questions unanswered .If some one is asking to pick between Zoox AHE or Apple we should be honest enough to give them the current scenario. If you join below L4 at Zoox no matter what team you are in forget about growth.You will be so deep down in the Org structure you don't have a say on anything so be very careful when you choose your level .Make sure you are at L5 minimum. As AHE is concerned many good people have left and still people on verge of leaving ,I would definitely give some time to join Zoox for now because you might end up getting some unfinished poor quality work which might end up in disappointing career
What about joining at L4 ? How are the promotion prospects to L5 ?
Very bleak ,The promotion here is not transparent, couple of my teammates are extremely smart and committed but they are disgruntled as well
