Zoox vs Rivian

I have offers from Zoox and Rivian. TC @ Zoox is ~ $20k/yr > Rivian over 4 yrs (including ZARS,considering at current value) Until the IPO announcement, the RIVIAN RSU was just on paper but now it changed the equation. Your thoughts on which one has a better TC considering Rivian IPO and ZAR ? Zoox: Base 180k Amazon RSU -60k over 3 yrs SAR - ~120,000 over 6 yrs Joining bonus 15k Annual bonus - in terms of SAR Rivian: Base 165k RSU 120k Over 4 yrs No annual bonus no joining bonus #zoox #rivian

FYI Rivian is currently overvalued at $80B. The stock is likely to sink badly after 6 months of the ipo (it is going to be by end of the year ) .

What do you think is a realistic valuation for Rivian?

Cerner Xdfgytr Aug 29, 2021

I don't know but all what I know is that Tesla had valued at $20B when they manufactured ten of thousands of model X. Then valued around $32B when they started catching up and producing hundreds of thousands of vehicles. Rivian has produced less than 10 vehicles (they are samples) . Yes less than that. It is a risk. Also they have Tesla as competitor and Elon will fight for his company.

Aren't those both taken by Amazon?

I moved from zoox to rivian for a few reasons but, I'd say rivian is set up better than say lucid for their ipo. The Sars to me didnt mean much since the 6yr total vest period was a no go for me. Rivian is better put together from a vehicle perspective. Zoox is floundering a bit with less than optimal direction in my opinion. I think they'll be successful at some point but they also have competition that they're letting push past them even with the initial lead they had. Edit: also forgot, you can't take SARs with you if you quit. So you're forced to sell at current market value vs if you were granted stocks in what will soon be a public company (rivian) you could keep those past employment.

Dumb question. What’s a SAR?

Zoox selp18 Sep 1, 2021

Stock appreciation rights. Basically it's a way for the parent company to provide stock to a wholly owned subsidiary. They get a valuation every year or so and basically Amazon puts aside a pool of money to pay people out who want to cash in their Sars

Thanks, so the $120,000k is underlying Amazon stock that’ll vest for OP over 6 years? Or “Zoox stock”?

I moved from Zoox to Rivian! I love both companies. For Zoox, it really depends what team you are joining, it can be toxic in some of the teams unfortunately. And I really miss Zoox's meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)! That was super awesome😁... No food in Rivian!

What’s it like at Rivian so far. Are you in their Bay Area office or SoCal?

Yeah

I'd consider zoox. The tech is real and with lots of projects paused due to people quitting after the acquisition, you will get to grow and have larger impact if you can live with high attrition. From your TC it looks like a great opportunity for you to learn as T4 Just bounce after one year if you don't like it.

I’ve heard great things about Aurora too :)

When is Aurora IPOing
