Zuckerberg says some Meta employees will share desks as the company scrambles to reduce costs

Extreme cost cutting. 😂😂 Musk will follow. Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday said that some Meta employees will share desks as a cost-cutting measure while the company reduces its office space. He added that it would result in a "meaningful cultural shift" in how Meta operates. "For example, as we shrink our real estate footprint, we're transitioning to desk sharing for people who already spend most of their time outside the office," Zuckerberg said in the memo. "We'll roll out more cost-cutting changes like this in the coming months." https://finance.yahoo.com/news/mark-zuckerberg-says-meta-employees-131622682.html

Why not just mandate office meetings in the meta verse

Honeywell :(( Nov 11, 2022

Why would they have a desk space for a remote employee?

Dematic deadpo0l Nov 11, 2022

It’s exactly this right. Like if you are remote you don’t need a fixed desk. So you can say like 4 people will share this desk to save space. It’s actually a good idea

Meta codemod Nov 11, 2022

It is for people who work remotely and occasionally visit offices

Uber Daraemon Nov 11, 2022

They already doing that in London offices

Hope this is not real. How much of cost can you take out by shrinking office space?

Dematic deadpo0l Nov 11, 2022

Surprisingly lot

I can see more cost cutting add up as well: No business class flight 75 USD per day for food expenses while travel All Department annual budget reduce 20%

VMware taipeiman Nov 11, 2022

Op hope you know this is hyped up news? All he’s saying is that if youre not in the office most of the time, you will have to share you desk with someone else when you’re not around . I don’t see how this is extreme cost cutting, especially when there are so many remote employees? Do you expect meta to have one seat per employee even when those employees don’t work from the office?

Persistent Systems Bandit414 Nov 11, 2022

Sharing desk? Thats kinky. Kinda like MFM (or FMF as the case may be)

Citrix Systems NSJockey Nov 11, 2022

MFM is kinda weird…. FMF on the other hand…

This is SO STUPID. First you give ridiculous perks to suck in all the talent and now you skimp like you’re a 100yo company. Definition of terrible management.

Expedia Group BetaDude Nov 11, 2022

Agree. But I would say the skimped benefit is still better than most in the industry.

Nestle x39bs Nov 11, 2022

At least they can’t force them to be in the office 5 days?

Meta boomerboom Nov 11, 2022

I joined as full time remote while the spending spree was still going on. I didn't get a badge nor a desk to begin with... I guess that counts as extreme cost cutting too ... 🤷‍♂️
