anyone have insight on the transition from amazon L5 SDE to meta E5? i’ve been at amazon as an L5 for almost 2 years, have meta recruiters wanting to schedule an E5 interview. a little over 3 yoe in a “professional” setting as SDE, plus 4-5 more as freelance/entrepreneur. how much different is meta E5? does it map roughly to amazon L6? any insight on interview process? thanks! seattle tc 320 + 🍌
Can't hurt to take the interview and see if an offer appears.
FWIW, a meta recruiter looked at my resume and put me in the E6 loop, meanwhile an Amazon one told me I’m L5 material 🤣. Passed both and now I’m debating accepting the Amazon offer and pulling out if I get through meta’s ridiculously long team match phase RN, or waiting it out to see what Meta comes back with but potentially losing the Amazon offer. Can’t stress enough how important system design and behavioral rounds are for senior meta roles, make sure you can talk about impact and leading a team!
Did I read it correctly, you are deciding between meta E6 and amazon L5?
I’m deciding between a tangible offer for Amazon L5 and a meta “you’re in team matching we don’t know how long that’ll be” for E6. After they effectively froze E4 hiring I don’t want to turn down Amazon and then be left with nothing from Meta. Happened to me with Google in 2022. Passed interviews and was stuck in team matching for months before they just closed my packet.
Well, the level should be decided by your performance in the SD and BV interviews.
How are you getting E5. Nowadays they require 6 YOE for E5
i have something like 3-4 yoe doing freelance work and starting my own company before i started my first full time sde role, so technically i have >6 yoe total. i explained that to the recruiter and she seemed to understand, but i’m still a bit worried i’m under qualified lol
I am joining as E4 with slightly less than 6 YOE
