i quit amazon in 9 months. they told me i owe them 17k in relocation costs. what happens if i dont pay them back. will they come after me. serious answers please. i could use this money.
Why are you leaving in 9 months, makes no sense financially unless you have solid offer
They can sue you. Not sure if this will cause any issue in your background verification in future.
They can sue you easily and probably will. Go to a lawyer with your contract man
My question is if they would really do it. If they decide to do it. I’ll keep some money aside and pay them. But for now can I not pay them.
If it was mentioned in your offer letter, they can legally sue you, which adversely affects your career and future employment opportunities, so consult a lawyer about possible repercussions before making that choice. Also remember if you are paying back that money, you can request to waive off the tax on that bonus for the financial year as well, since you will be paying the amount before tax.
It is mentioned. My question is if they would really do it. If they decide to do it. I’ll keep some money aside and pay them. But for now can I not pay them. I asked. They said they cannot since I joined last year. And this is new financial year. Do you know how can I get that back from IRS.
Some employer wouldn’t like to spend a penny on an employee who has already jumped ship. Chances are higher if the amount to recover is higher than their lawyer fees. So yeah, there is a good probability.
ask ur new company to pay it off
They are paying me 17k. They are paying me after taxes. I will get 10ish in hand.
is the 17k sign on or additional money for u to settle the amazon relocation issue?
They will probably just take it from the last paycheck they owe you with the PTO payout?
You should've gotten PIP, they would forgive all that relocation.
Did they do it?
What happ OP? Did you end up paying back to Amazon for the relo ?
Your relocation is more than my bonus
Serious answers please. Will they come after me.
