changing jobs soon and need to apply for a new TN visa. how the heck is this going to work with borders closed and premium processing suspended? π #workvisa #tn
Afaik the border is not closed for people with work visas
But a TN-1 only becomes a valid visa at the border crossing. Which doesn't mean they won't do it or that it doesn't fit the criteria if what you say is true. It just means you never know exactly if this time you'll cross the border, even without this current situation.
That's true,good point
Only the land border is closed. You should be able to get your TN adjudicated at, say, Pearson with no issues. Or file for pre-approval with USCIS.
But pre-approval with USCIS might take several months, right?
That's true, yeah. No premium processing right now. Wouldn't recommend this route unless you have a tricky case.
Is the 14 day mandatory quarantine being enforced? I'm in US right now, so can I fly to Canada, then next day fly back to US and get my TN processed at the airport?
I am flying this weekend. I have flight booked next day. I was told 14 day is mandatory and I am not allowed to fly out next day. I will request to fly out when I arrive anyway and see. I'll update this thread.
Hi were you able to fly out the next day?
Yes, see comment below
Update: got my TN at YYZ
Nice. Did you just take the next flight back once you landed?
yes but cbp did question me on whether I did the 14 days. connecting flights are exempt but think it's a bit of a gray area if this qualifies as connecting
Normally a lawyer helps prepare what you have to show at the border crossing. This would be a good question for him or her. I'm curious to know. So, in theory, you can enter Canada, but not return to the US under the current situation. Best let your employer know it might be remote work for a while.
