has this happened to anyone when asking for ridiculous amounts of money?
If you think you are a scientist who everybody wants then no. For everything else, yes 😂
If you ask ridiculous high amount and push hard then yes your offer could be pulled of. Be realistic, do research. Just ask what you want and based on your performance. If they still pull off then it's their problem.
You should have consulted us before asking! Anyway, current TC and yoe?
So this happened to me last week. Amazon offered 265k TC Zillow offered 220k TC MS offered 180k TC Hulu offered 200k TC Interviewed with Apple for TPM position, cleared interviews, discussed numbers. Recruiter said 225k TC is what they would offer the max and that HM liked me a lot, Director has approved the offer as well. Then I got a mail from recruiter saying VP didn’t want to offer that much just because I have 2.5 YoE and he reneged on the initial offer. Now I asked Apple for 245k because it was TPM while all my other offers are SDEs. Current TC: 160k
Nice work. Just go with Amazon yeah? Apple might come back with a more competitive offer after a year or two.
Thank you. I am going with Amazon as of now. I was ready to accept Apple’s 225k TC but the fact that they thought 225k is a lot, given that my interview performance was great and everyone liked me just proved that Apple, or specifically this org at Apple and VP do not belong to higher standards. They thought having 2.5 YoE means I do not have good knowledge. Which maybe wrong. And I wanted to go with Apple even though 225k TC was less because I thought TPM is a role I would like. But hey I also love Engineering a lot.
Learning opportunity. Every negotiation is a risk. If you can, ask the recruiter if you can continue to consider other roles or if you need to wait for a while. Think of the positive side, if you got a low TC at that job, would you be really happy? How long do you think you'd last there? Just move on, plenty of employers who will appreciate you for what you're worth.
Why did you do that? You shot yourself in the foot.
No I haven’t just wondering if anyone ever has
