There have been a lot of bad reviews about Tony and the leadership team at Canoo over the last few years. Has the culture improved at all?
No, I have been here two years and it has been toxic from the start. False promises to employees, childish behavior from Tony and his executives. It is awful. Canoo Design is one of the worst… Richard Kim is an absolute child, who will admit to treating people like “rags” until they leave. If their is someone or thing he doesn’t like (or can’t have) he runs to his dad Tony A. The last instance, Design literally has had nothing to do for a full year. So RK demanded he take over Canoo.com, social, and anything content related or he threatens to take his team to a meeting room and watch Netflix “just collect a check”. No one wants to work with him from any department. He is only here because if he left it would be bad optics. This is just one instance. This place is a hot mess and I am happy to share more.
Thanks for sharing. The company appears to be in a dire financial situation, but still hiring a lot folks. Are you worried about layoffs in the near future?
Yes, we have been silently laying people off. We had a series of layoffs since last June (I had to let my team go) and since then teams have been thinned. We recently laid off a Director of Software, Director of Product, and a executive is taking a “sabbatical” since last week. I was also informed that we are no longer provide severance. Which is awful.
I have been working at canoo for a year now and it is an absolute mess! By the way, the job postings you’re seeing are largely fake I have been told.
I have read all the comments and have been approached to join Canoo in OKC, does anyone here still work for Canoo and can provide any updates?
