I saw some people working as a manager in their late 20s. that is in some faang companies. this is unbelievable for me because at the same age I am still an entry level engineer. how do they achieve this?
FB is known for young managers. Those who work their ass off while young can achieve this.
They don’t work hard
Why be a manager when u can be a senior eng? Managers have to deal with so much talking and presentations and politics
Some people might like this more than coding all day long
Subjective metrics of success. The option to blame the objective (project) failure on a senior engineer
Why does age matter? If they’re qualified and do a good job, I’d be willing to be led by a 5 year old. America is a meritocracy (or it should be). There’s no reason keeping someone from climbing the ladder just based off of their age. It’s also completely ok to be entry level late 20’s. Everyone has a different path
There is Def pros and cons working for a young Manager, he can be a code warrior, individual contributor not necessarily a great manager
I was a young manager. The key problem is, young haven't experienced good and bad managers. They can be great, still, with good coaching support.
I agree as long as they seek help
Born under the right circumstances. Don't compare yourself against factors you can't control
The younger manager most likely got it because he was the most qualified and last resort choice compared to whoever else was left around
By Being in right place at right time
Unfortunately this
