best cloud (most prestigious)

even though I work at aws so am slightly biased, I think that aws is the best cloud platform to work with. reasons are: - azure is too hand holdy - gcp customer support is outright bad - oracle self explanatory - alibaba also self explanatory - digital ocean is cute but unproven so far - seems nice for a hobby / side project though maybe im just too used to aws though 🤷‍♂️ hence the poll. what does blind think?

All my friends from aws azure gcp more went to databricks something fishy going on though they are compensated very well north of a million in comp

Amazon 6rrytdxhg OP Feb 21, 2023

interesting. 1m+ comp at what level? I imagine must be senior at least, and the vast majority of that being paper money

Azure hand holdy? Please explain

Amazon 6rrytdxhg OP Feb 21, 2023

there's like seven steps to spin up an instance on azure, ec2 is one or two steps max. azure u need to click through these pages one by one = basic, disks, networking, management, tags, advanced, review, confirm aws = can configure everything on one page, not clicking through nonsense like its a windows installation setup wizard

Using the console is for suckers anyway, what is wrong with infrastructure as code

GCP > AWS > AZure gcp customer service might be bad but their services are amazing and documentation is best in the industry by far so I don’t think people even need to contact customer support apart from increasing quota for services. GCP has video based learning and quick labs on coursera which is very helpful in practicing infra with best practices GCP has best naming conventions for services so quite easy to remember. GCP doesn’t have bloated services aka same similar services doing same stuff. Whenever that happens they merge those to keep it clean which is nice unlike aws where they keep on creating similar services with little bit of twist On the other hand, apart of core AWS services. Most of the services are useless and were created by teams to get promoted and show impact. Also, documentation is super bad and verbose in aws. You can’t get concise information from the website. It feels like reading a book … Azure is pure garbage. Poor documentation, unreliable service and bad customer support.

have you ever used AWs? GCP documentation is sh!t and may the lord save you from ever contacting their customer support.

Used all of them

Amazon jandyassy Feb 21, 2023

IMO they're all subpar and the space is ripe for disruption

Maybe people will migrate back to “local cloud” aka spin their own servers.

Amazon nooonamee Feb 21, 2023

If you have money, AWS 💰 otherwise, on-prem 💪

Amazon babababab1 Feb 21, 2023

Wow very prestige. I’m sure your parents are proud of you

Best cloud is no cloud. Just host everything on someone else's DNS server.
