I had a first round AMZN video screen with HM for principal product role and immediately wasn’t feeling it. The interviewer said the product I would be working on is the ‘QVC of Fire TV” and UX feature iterations. Of course going in I knew it was their Amazon Shopping Video product, but the way it was phrased was a weird real-time letdown. It was also very narrow in scope, Live Shopping only on Fire TV. I kinda wanted to bail but stuck it out. The lack of interest was palpable. Big time rejection email pending. Anyone else experience similar? YOE: 15, TC for role: ~$575K #productmanager #Amazon #video #streaming
Happened to me with Amazon as well. Very restrictive scope. Right after the interview, I withdrew my application. The following week got invited for another position, turned it down as well. If you are not feeling it, don’t push yourself. Amazon will always call you
Your TC at Vodafone?
Same. Had a painful series of interviews with Amazon and realized I didn’t connect with a single person. Withdrew my application that afternoon. Three weeks later I received an automated email saying they went with another candidate.
Yes, midway during FAANG interview my enthusiasm faded. The position was based inthe Bay Area and I was realizing that I really didn't want to move from being in NY/ remote. I knew what the salary range was and it just wouldn't be enough to maintain standard of living. I flamed out on one of the interviews because I was starting to not care and got lowballed so I declined.
I am surprised about OP and another person realizing the scope in the first interview itself. In Amazon you build your scope- especially if you are in product.
The scope was understood. The branding of how the product was referred to internally and how it was messaged was the surprising let-down.
You could have passed the interview and asked to speak with other teams. Once the bar raiser and hiring manager give the ok for Amazon, you can talk to any other hiring manager without even interviewing. You shouldn’t have given up. If you get rejected, you will be blocked for at least a year
Yeah the dude was on his phone snickering half the time. I closed up my notepad and left
I was interviewing for OLX Group, the interviewer had his video off but insisted that I had mine on. He was pretty rude and condescending, saying things like "you've been working for so many years but you don't know this?", even though I think I answered all the questions. His tone was rude and aggressive too. After one point, i just lost my composure and lashed out at him saying I didn't want to interview anymore because he was rude and he should learn how to interview people and got off the call.
Great response!
Yes, HM was telling me about the situation, essentially the product was on life support and no idea if he/me could turn it around. I was cordial but just said that is not what I am looking for and ended it shortly after.
Many moons ago I was invited for an interview at a small company to work on a streaming product. I hated my job and was like why not but somehow I forgot to do any research on the company or the format of the interview. The interview was over Skype but I didn't know that I'm supposed to have a camera, so I participated voice only (I didn't have a webcam, this was long time ago). The interviewers did have their camera on so it was a bit awkward when I explained that I don't have a webcam. They were 4 people sitting behind a white desk and the woman in charge started explaining their product. It turned out it's a porn site. I immediately lost all interest but I didn't have the balls to pull out from the call and just proceeded with the standard format, explaining who I was, what I know etc. We did a systems design question and that was it. I received the rejection email the next day. There was another phone interview I had with Amazon in maybe 2010. I forgot about the interview and went to a party. Then at 10pm I get a call and realize that I had this interview. Not wanting to disappoint the other person, I sat down on a sidewalk and I remember trying to draw a binary tree into the dirt with a stick I found, but it was dark and I couldn't see well. Unfortunately I was also somewhat drunk and couldn't remember how to do proper traversal so I guess the interview didn't went well. Never received a followup email though, so who knows.
I did not know people got interviewed at 10PM
^I did once. They wanted to make it easier for the interviewer who was 10 hours ahead. Scared me off the company, as early indications from other sources suggested this was common. I turned the offer down.
Same here. Right after the HM said minimum 20 % travel. I respectfully terminated the call. The recruiter had not set that expectation.
I took myself out of the running recently when the HM stood me up twice. The recruiter said it was their new scheduling software but if they can’t get their act together this early what happens later? Flaky and unprofessional
Once attended an interview right after getting a FAANG offer for a small no name company, didn't even know what they did lmao.
Lmao
Lol it's fun blitzing through interviews with no fucks to give.
