Whats the backstory on this company? The good/bad/ugly? Anyone on Blind work there? #tech #jobfit #marketing
What role did you interview for? I can give more info
Avoid like the plague. For 2019 the company had 30 percent turnover for the engineering and product division which is larger than the Chicago average. The ceo still has his hands in every aspect of the company, including but not limited to, approving every job offer, maintaining the ownership of google and aws, and other things that you pay people to do for you. The environment is very toxic and the Glassdoor reviews should tell you everything.
Just curious, are you still employed there and what specifically made the environment toxic for you? Also, are these things your mentioning necessarily indicator of a failing company or just a poor office culture? Lastly, again just curious, where are you getting the average turnover number?
The turnover number was at the T&P offsite. I no longer work at AC I have left within the past 8 weeks for greener pastures. The company is stable but it’s absolutely nonsense that they don’t offer RSU’s. The office culture is awful, backstabbing, and draining. Who hasn’t been lied to about their job duties there? Honestly.
I work for ActiveCampaign. I was hired pre-attrition. I work in engineering. It’s true a lot of people have left. Good, talented people have found roles that fit them. It’s true that the is still a lot of ambiguity on which direction we are going, but it’s starting to come together. I have a good work-life balance. I share close relationships with my boss and Director. I work from home all the time since COVID, with no pressure to come back soon. I feel supported, and I’m working on meaningful work. I don’t have a career path, but I’m not interested in that. The tech stack is a mess but plans are coming soon to get rid of the monolith. Jason (ceo) isn’t as involved as he was before. He’s a good guy that cares. Very approachable. Company stresses leadership and compassion over control and authority. My teammates are awesome. Compassion and empathy go far. ActiveCampaign has its warts, but I’ve seen far worse. I pretty much choose what I work on. I miss my friends that left, but I think things are getting better.
I have worked at ActiveCampaign now for a couple of years in engineering. It’s a fast growing company and not everyone enjoys the ambiguity and frequent changes that requires. Product roadmaps had been non existent for several teams but this year that has really turned around as we seem to have hired some people who know the products and customer needs. We are moving away from PHP though it is a slow process with many still working in it, many of our newer products are in other languages and tested well, the monolith needs more time. I am not planning on leaving anytime soon, it’s gotten significantly better this year and I believe we are going in the right direction. I do wish everyone had equity as it seems like we are on a path to an IPO and who wouldn’t want that, though this is still the best company I have ever worked for.
Breached confidentiality in interview process. Indicative of internal trust issues. Unprofessional conduct.
Who is this comment intended for?
Are there any more details you can provide?
How are the technologies used in the product?
PHP monolith, MySQL and DynamoDB. Newer things are built in Python or Java, some teams still build more into PHP. All AWS stack, Kafka is now deployed and that seems promising to finally break away from some of our legacy approaches. Polyglot programmers will love it, if you aren’t comfortable changing languages some or working with a monolith at times you may not enjoy it. It’s a mixed bag.
I’m considering a move here from a larger competitor. Do they have annual holiday bonuses or any annual contributions to 401k?
No holiday bonuses. They do contribute to your 401k a percentage of your salary. Some roles have a variable comp component, not all.
I got an offer from one of the Engineering groups in a mgmt position. Any ideas about salaries and bonuses ? Is 10% bonus typical ?
Hi I work there. Do you have a more specific question? In short, I consider it the best company I’ve ever worked for but of course has a lot of room to grow and be better. It has the usual issues a quickly scaling company will have like not enough structure to support size in some ways but it’s slowly rectifying those issues.
Thanks! Had a few interviews virtually last week and wanted to learn as much as I could but there isn’t much discussion on Blind from what I’ve found. I guess that’s a positive thing in this case ha.
