Currently at Google. Considering an offer from Citadel for a lot more TC. However, I like my WLB at Google. Manager is very hands off, and I can frequently enjoy a long weekend or afternoon without clocking vacation time. How’s life at Citadel? TC 250, Citadel offer is for 400k
Looking at these numbers and definition of wlb I am kinda starting to respect my TC and wlb at Walmart a lot more. What's your yoe @OP
Is citadel long hours due to actually challenging work or does your team just hand you a lot of tedious shit?
Tedious stressful with tight deadlines lol
Yeah they just give you week worth of work for a one day. when you done, they give you more. Rinse and repeat while you can. Once you can't you get replaced. Some people are fortunate enough to find better teams so it can be better. My experience is not great, but I'm used to toxic environment.and I like money. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why not jump to senior swe at another FAANG for 350+k?
I don’t feel like spending my free time on leetcode. The citadel recruiter was aggressive and promised a simple interview ... which it was. FAANG almost certainly wouldn’t be as easy.
What do you mean by simple interview? Less leetcode/algorithm based?
I've heard on blind that it's worst in the industry, by a big margin
Don't do it.
Hi @bruteforce - can I dm you? Have a question or two about Citadel..
Sure
WLB is a disaster and you’ll have to work on things that your manager wants and not what you love. I’ll suggest spend time on leetcode instead.
Wlb is fine for our team. I joined from Google too. Been here for quite some time. DM if you want to know more.
Yeah unfortunately the WLB at Citadel isn't great... However, the WLB at Citadel Securities is actually pretty reasonable. I'm doing about 45-50 per week at the moment. Yes, it's not like Google, but the pay is pretty insane. Maybe you should ask for a Citadel Securities role? If you can't get a CS role, I say stay. Salary has diminishing returns towards happiness.
What are the interviews like at citadel securities? Looking to make the jump Bc I want more money. Maybe they wouldn’t even interview me though Bc I didn’t go to a top school.
Yes you will work 50 hours a week. For some people that is a non-starter, others that is their default. If you are someone that automatically works this much it is free money. Also for people that are overachievers there is a lot of upward mobility if you can succeed in this environment (not everyone can). Also talk to someone on your team. Talk to everyone in your reporting line up to the CTO. (Small company). Talk to them about your concerns on WLB and understand the team. Each org is different as the company is very distributed. Then make your decision.
> for people that are overachievers there is a lot of upward mobility Can you elaborate on the mobility for the upper achievers, but also more importantly the regular folk? In other words what’s the median / 90pct progression like?
