How is the AWS elastic search team in terms of wlb, work and work culture ? I am expecting an offer for SDE3. YOE: 14
There are many teams, not just one elastic search team. So which of these teams in particular do you want to know about? WLB and culture will vary depending on the team. I would imagine it would be pretty chill except for when you’re the on call. Also work will be interesting work as you’ll be building a very popular and quickly growing service.
I didn’t realize that there are many teams under ES - do these teams handle different areas (orchestration, scaling, monitoring). This did not come up during interview process but I will check with recruiter. One possibility is it’s ES monitoring but that’s my guess.
It’s control plane team
There are 2 issues with elastic search. First the open source licensing. Read about it online. So amazon is in very tricky situation and that's why they want to hire more. 2. They have lot of tech debt. As all AWS team, it started very fast without thinking about the scalability etc. Director has changed quite a few times. High ops work because architecture is bad.
The work is quite "tense". And they are "stretched" quite thin.
So is it a matter of hiring more people ? Or it’s worst than that ?
