I have a team of 3 including my manager and we releases once a week. Recently I noticed that my co-worker take work home for the weekend to finish and have a time buffer in the next week. Also can see lots of his check ins, slack messages, etc on weekends. However I can see the good intention in that I can't help to think that this actually goes against him and the team. Note- my coworker has joined before couple months & He is Indian. I have observed from past experiences that lots of Indians do work on the weekends. These are my arguments: 1. This is setting higher expectations for manager that no matter whatever difficult work it is, Our team is going to get it done within the deadline and if not, they will finishes in the weekend. 2. I donât work in weekends so basically on Monday i do have lots of to doâs for the day while other guyâs comment is he is done with all the work. 3. My manager doesnât has the expectations that I should work in the weekend but who knows!! Could be just matter of time until he asks me too. Is my view of the problem correct? How to deal with this situation? My responsibility is not to tell anyone to stop anything.
Post a couple things late at night and on weekends to give the appearance you are working long hours. But really only work like 5 hours a day m-f like everyone else. :p
We Indians term this as "Kaam Chor"
You guys release once a week. ??!!! Lmao.
He is doing smart by not working on weekdays and only working on weekends.. but over a long run who cares.. Deliver quality stuff over time and you will see wonders
Lol. No he works 8+ hours per day in weekdays as well. đ
Just learn on your personal projects and enjoy life perhaps traveling and doing fun activities over weekend. He will learn his lesson when his kids will be pooping over on him @weekends
Welcome to your slavery. Please remember to vote for more globalism. Once the lowest common denominator is normalized, corporations will make us compete at the dna level.

It is fair for him to work whenever he wants unless he is expecting others to work weekends as well. I once received a CL to review on Sunday and a ping on Hangouts asking me to take a look.
Code review makes it hard to get work done asynchronously.
I work every weekend. Itâs not a big deal. Get your work done during the week and who cares.
âMy co-worker is working harder/better than me and itâs not fair!! đđâ - OP
More like âmy co-worker is a piece of shit with zero self respectâ. Donât make it a race to the bottom, find a way and fuck him over, you will be doing everyone a service. đ
Lol working on weekends means you have zero self-respect? Maybe it just means you actually like/enjoy your work?
Next time in sprint planning, see what time he is allocating for the tasks. If he is allocating 6 hours per day and nothing more then he is slacking if he has to work over the weekends. If he is putting more than that then question why is he doing that as it impacts team dynamics. If the time on the sprint is not put via common understanding and voting then discuss with your manager.

Any Indians Think Kashmir Should be Independent?
Different people will work at different pace and times. It's normal in tech. You need to be confident enough on your work and the value of it to not let this affect you.
