total experience: 19 years, at cisco 7 years role: Dev (network management and cloud apps) current Role: G12, might be promoted next year to PE. Been on queue for 2 years base: 210k bonus: 25% stock/RSU vest pending: 450k consistently got 150k+ every year in last 3 years i have an Amazing boss who helped me grow and took care of my comp well, but work is boring for last 2+ years new offer Amazon/AWS dev, L6. tried for next level but they declined base: 190k bonus/RSU: 570k for 4 years torn between continue at cisco or take AWS offer. I am stuck on not leaving my boss
Rest assured once you are L6 @amazon you'll be tested to the core so much so that you'll quit asking questions on blind
😋 Agree on culture
Having Amazing Boss is important than working for Amazon boss
True. But at some point career growth also important?
Isn't 210k base low for a g12 with 19yrs exp? And why is your base at Amazon lower than your current base?
They insisted on low base and high bonus/ RSU structure. Was able to increase first two year bonus to 300k (they give cash every month) I Joined Cisco at 150 in 2013. Been in same team since then
Comparing Cisco and Amazon money wise they are pretty much the same. I see no big bump there. Amazon doesn't even have ESPP. Try and get some retaining bonus or a hike from Cisco with Amazon offer. If they say yes, stay back and enjoy life :) If you want to learn and work on something new, go to Amazon.
Thanks for feedback
Base 190k? Did Amazon remove the 185k limit? Also what is the signing bonus, RSU split?
Signing bonus 300k for two years. RSU 270k
RSU seems to be low
Neither Cisco or Amazon here, but I left a somewhat cushy but boring job to "get out of my comfort zone"... but regretting it now... It looks like total comp between Cisco and Amazon are about the same? I guess if you have a specific career goal to hit then go for it. But you may also risk losing some things that are working well for you now, like a good boss, WLB, etc
I’m in this dilemma now. I can rest and vest or stretch myself a bit. Feels too early in my career to get lazy though.
Seems like you like your current place so I would stay. You already have a nice TC and position. I guaranteed that you will regret joining Amazon.
If I were in your situation, I would stay. Cisco stock is going much higher IMHO. You will benefit more there. L6 is kind of junior for your experience.
Leave and try to come back if you don't like it? Seems like you have a good relationship with your boss
This if possible without testing/tearing connections with the boss is not a bad idea.
Stay. And find a hobby. Hard to find a great boss
Sure. But with kids, family hard to find time for Hobby. Agree on great Boss
I got twins so I know about time or lack of it:). I believe amazon will give you less time and it seems Cisco pay wise is better.
