I have a bit of EUR I got for my birthday, cash. Not much, like 5k... is there an exchange place in seattle area that doesn't charge like 8% spread on the spot rate? thanks 310
Don't go to an airport exchange kiosk. They make the Wells Fargo exchange rate seem reasonable. Airport exchanges take 30-40%.
what's a usual spread from spot rate? I used to work for a bank as a teenager and they only charged like 2% spread over spot. I'm ok paying a little more, as long as is reasonable
You won't get good rates in Seattle. I was in the same situation and just waited until my next trip to Europe to exchange. The currency exchange competition in most US cities is too low to offer a competitive rate. Alternatively, if you go to Vancouver, you may also be able to get good rates there.

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
try wells fargo (or wherever you bank)
wells fargo i checked, they will tear 1 bill for each 10 i give them
not sure what that means. are you referring to the buy sell spread or do you mean they charge a 10% fee?
