Weird interviewing experience with Ebay

Hello all, I had a very weird experience with Ebay this week. I was reached out by a recruiter stating that the hiring manager is interested in having a talk with me. I scheduled the interview the following week. The manager was 5 minutes late in the interview and was very anxious while talking about what his team does. Then he asked me a coding question on codesignal. I coded a brute force solution in 10 mins. He immediately asked me to optimize the code and straight away started coding the solution all by himself in the coderpad by taking the control. He got stuck while coding the optimization and wasted 15 more minutes and then asked me if i have any questions. Do managers at Ebay lack people skills? Why would the manager start coding the solution instead of letting the interviewee solve it. Has anyone had such a weird interviewing experience at Ebay? Update: Got a reject stating that coding is not upto ebay standards lol

He must be from one specific country. Managers from that country are literally THE worst. They thrive on exploitation and threatening their employees. Software industry jobs were single handedly destroyed by their dirty politics.

This lack of professionalism and buffoonery is happening all over and is the new normal. It seems to be the standard now. I simply accept that most things are going to be fucked up and just roll with it. It's just reality now.

I had similar experience, however I applied for EM. Spoke to HM, in Buying sometime in January… he was not interested since the moment he joined call… typical Rajesh with 15yr experience and director level… to level set I have 25 yr experience and scaled companies from 2 to 200… back to story. He said ok to next rounds, got email from HR we are thrilled… got next round System Design, I got grokking on tips, and actually built and scaled greenhouse projects for living for past 10 years, backend systems processing 12billion events daily.. Got cleared for that or moved to next and final round 4 hours, included code review.. I thought I nailed it and raised optimization concerns like adding concurrency and observability etc What I think was not good, was one of the round with product director.. he straight out said you had worked with big company last 10 yrs back… also why you been working for 2-3 years for past few companies… duh.. not a single person was not Rajesh, all of them were from south part of India and while I come from North so I felt in my bones that this won’t fly well… All of them were likely just making bank by working 10-15 hours per week. Anyways, I applied as first test of water.. my mentor told me once, interview to companies that you don’t want to work for to test yourself. I would have not accepted offer but finally HR says, the hiring manager decided to go for a better fit. Duh… should have said first day Rajesh
