dealing with rejection

been rejected by google, facebook, amazon, goldman sachs, jp morgan, cargurus, indeed, thomson rueters. Listed only the ones I’ve been onsite to. Only positive note is the amount of free hotel and plane rides I get. Downside being I took all but 1 of my vacation days on interviewing this year. tc: 120 yoe:2 random no name company. Should I give up about now and just enjoy life like coding personal projects without worrying about swapping jobs or tc? also a little over 2k rating on leetcode contests but I’m not particularly great at explaining problems (stutter a lot) also I’m ugly like almost 1/10 rating.

You just gotta keep trying and keep working at it. Practice interviewing on a white board and explaining your solutions with a friend. These are skills you can improve on. I personally failed my first 15 interviews or so before i passed my first interview.

Thanks this actually helps a lot all these rejections are really demoralizing. I am happy for what I have but I just feel so close every time yet never grasp victory.

After reading your post and from my own experience. I think you know your stuff but lack confidence. Be confident in your interviews and that comes with mock interviews. Fake the confidence till you make it

Thanks this is some good advice :) I will try. I actually do tend to not be confident I say “I think it’s right” because I don’t want to come off as arrogant maybe confidently stating my answers could go a long way.

Yes I agree! That one factor that the world doesn't tell us is that confidence and ownership of the role even BEFORE it's yours makes a huge huge difference. Your vibes and what you're emitting out to the interviewers might be causing feelings of skepticism if you can do the job - when in reality you CAN do the job. It's bc of that confidence factor.

I'll second the confidence factor. What I have learned in my 10 YOE while being an interviewer and interviewee is that confidence in yourself as well as your answers is a BIG part of the evaluation. Its not always only going off if the answer is right or wrong, but how confident you are on *how* you arrived at said answer (the thought process behind it), which takes practice to build those characteristics. Keep trying!

I failed my first interview at the bar raiser for Amazon - I had resigned from being able to get a role as an SDE at Amazon. I tried again a year later and absolutely nailed the interview. Take some time to relax and enjoy things not pertaining to your career. Return after you're rejuvenated and do some introspection - find areas you consider weak, and, then build upon it

You stated above you feel 1/10 unattractive. Some people make interview decision within first twenty seconds of interview start, and your confidence goes a long way here. I suggest doing something physical to build mental image. Do P90x or try 100 push ups for 100 days. It will go a long way to build your confidence.
