Assuming TC is equal would you rather work at Dropbox or Twitter? TC: 350-450 depending on market YoE: 12 @Dropbox and @Twitter What do refreshers look like at IC3/4/5 for Dropbox? What do refreshers look like for Senior/Staff at Twitter?
They are both good. Choose based on team, technologies, what you'll work on, etc
Twitter anyday
They’re both very poor at step tracking so neither
I love my Fitbit and will take it over an Apple Watch any day
Twitter. Dropbox is more boring stuff. I don’t even use the product anymore, my photos are now in google cloud, just wasting money to store my old photos.
Twitter by far. Benefits too numerous to list. Stock has finally turned around, now is a good time to join.
What bar?
Personally I like that I’m not working at an advertising company, but of all the companies selling ads I’d choose Twitter. Dropbox has a lot of interesting work if you get the right team. Twitter likely have great work too. When I interview candidates some comment that Dropboxers are more friendly and engaging than at other companies they have interviewed. That has been my experience also, working with them for the last few years. My experience with IC4/5 is that levels.fyi is pretty close, but RSUs/year have been consistently 50-100k higher. The stock price is a bit of a drag lately. I hope you’re right, it can only go up right? If you’re seriously considering joining ask to speak with a director, get them to tell you our plans for growth, if it excites you Dropbox might be a good fit for you.
I’ve noticed a standard offer from IC4 has been 200-215/600k/0-40k sign on/20% Any insight on IC4 offers? I’ve heard there are only 25 or so IC5 engineers in the 1200 engineering force
I’m an engineer so I’m not familiar with offers we send out, only my own. I’d guess we have 2x more IC5s than that. probably more engineers than that too.
We know a sabotager at netapp just joined Dropbox, SIT graduated, bad personal attitude, just beware. He is a Chinese.
Where did you go?
Dropbox’s enterprise storage business probably has lesser margins than twitter’s ads business. Perhaps Twitter is better for refreshers and bonuses in the long term
I was thinking about that too. But Dropbox stock seems to have bottomed out - twitter seems to be growing steadily. It’s odd to see their stock prices completely opposite of one another. Long term it seems like Twitter is the stronger company but Dropbox can only go up, right? Their integrations with slack, JIRA, etc can only be a good thing.
Yeah but enterprise storage seems to have heavy competition. You have google, Microsoft, etc. in that space. Twitter, however, seems to have found its place in social media sphere with a dedicated set of users. One thing to note, Twitter has actually stopped sharing AU stats recently, may indicate something bad as well. But otherwise, they don’t really have much of a competition as long as celebrities keep using the platform.
