Got an offer from eBay for a finance role. But I read posts of constant re-orgs, layoffs so kind of hesitant to accept. How is the stability for non tech teams? Anyone have any insight? Should I join or turn down the offer? Confused... 120k 15% 50/4 Current tc: 109 #ebay #tech #finance #fpa
You should take it if you like the offer, the team and the tasks. There weren’t any large layoffs recently. Reorgs can always happen in any company. I wouldn’t worry much about that
Thank you. My interviews mainly consisted of hm, and other managers so don’t have much insight there
I see. Of course it always depends on your direct manager and team, but I personally like the company. It has a good culture.
eBay finance is a great org, awesome people. The work is demanding but good. You shouldn't worry about layoffs. Reorg is a legit concern, but rarely they do layoffs.
Thanks - this helps. Are you in finance?
Take it if you want the name on your cv and feel you can learn/grow. If it's a nice little number you can rest and vest if that's your thing. Don't take it if care very little about having eBay on your cv and hate big company politics.
The reason I’m considering is because of having the name on my cv and the experience there will help land roles at other big tech vs. having only KP —> tech. Having only KP on my cv has been slight challenge landing roles at tech because not enough growth in FP&A because of diff industries The only reason I’m hesitant is because of constant re-orgs and fear of layoff. Not sure if the layoffs happen mainly in tech teams or FP&A gets impacted too
Layoffs will depend on what team you're in and how business critical it is. Reorgs aren't easy to predict or control. They often happen because of poor leadership decisions/forecasting but can also be attributed to macroeconomic factors. Take the ebay gig, see how it goes but keep your options open and don't plan on sitting there for 10 years. You can leave in 3-5 years with enough career capital and network connections to help you for years to come.
