Hi, I want to start studying for gmat exam and plan to take it in August. I just took a mock test to guage my current level and scored 620, but I am aiming for 730+ in gmat. I haven't started any prep yet, looking for guidance on how can I get 730 in 3 months. What are the best resources? Should I join a gmat prep school such as Manhattan/Kapal/Jamboree? Should I take 1:1 classes? Thank you in advance.
Olympus Test Prep is good, I had a friend say he/she liked the Economist one as well
If you need a lot of guidance or the structure to force you to prep, courses are good. Otherwise just buy a few books. I took GMAT many years ago. What's really important is that you familiarize yourself with the type of problems, especially for math, and how to solve them quickly.
What is your split between verbal and quant? Also, which practice test did you use?
Used the one that came free with official gmat books. Got 34 in verbal and 47 in quant.
Ok, good that you started with the official gmat prep test, as it’s the most accurate. You will have the fastest bang for your buck by initially focusing on verbal. The easiest one to score close to perfect is sentence correction. Get the PowerScore Sentence Correction bible and you’ll be done. The Critical Reasoning is also quite easy. I had read both the Manhattan Prep and the PowerScore Critical Reasoning Bible. Both are great and cover similar material. Reading Comprehension is the toughest to reach 100%. I had used the Manhattan Prep book and not the PowerScore one. After you’re done with those, you should hit almost 100% in sentence correction and critical reasoning with some ease. You can also use the official guides for more practice. For math, I had used Manhattan Prep. You should aim to hit 49-50, since you are close.
You should also use the GMATclub.com forum to get resources from other b-school applicants.
First, you need to adjust your expectations since a 110+ in 3 months will be very difficult. I remember my friends jumping ~30 on second try. Fwiw, I picked my weakest area, bought a Manhattan book, drilled for a month. Source: 720 GMAT, top 5 MBA program.
Even when my current score is with 0 prep?
If you are bumping verbal it'll be easier. Not impossible, just challenging.
