how do you get your foot in the door? my friend has been looking for various design roles for the past few months and has been having a really hard time. she has about 3 years of experience as a frontend engineer but she recently went to school to study graphic design part-time. i personally am surprised because i believed her relevant tech experience would be of help in getting interviews. add to this, the fact that unpaid/sketchy internship postings that do not add to your resume and having to weed them out. how do people get into a decent paying graphic design job or internship? on that note, if anyone is hiring, please reach out! tc: 300k #design #ui/ux #interviews
Graphic design really doesn’t cover the breadth of knowledge you need as a UX designer. I’d suggest some additional study to bridge the gaps. Topics like the psychology of perception, memory etc. Graphic design programs tend to index on how something looks vs. how it works, more aesthetics than interaction. There’s also a bit of a glut on the market right now, with so many highly trained and experienced people looking for work. It’s just going to take your friend some time. (The front end dev experience will definitely help though)
Frontend engineer and graphic design? Sounds like a UI designer track to me.
Contract jobs & having a strong portfolio. I’m not a expert in this, but I’ve seen some people transition that way.
