Amazon Advertising Org culture/wlb

I've been contacted for a role in Amazon advertising and wanted to know how the group potentially is from a culture and wlb is. I've search and read many threads about sspa and not sure if this is the same group. The job description says "the advertiser experience(AX) group" but then also mentions "self service advertising management" and "self service campaign builder applications". Is this SSPA or not? Would love if someone knew about the details of this team.

Don't join if you have other offers. Engineers are consistently thrown under the bus. In Amazon, your manager is not there to support your career. Since Amazon has attracted a lot of shady managers, it's a common practice to quietly keep their reports on "dev plan" in HR system without even a sign of performance concern or feedback, and later surprise them with a PIP built on pretext reasons. HR is not there to protect you because your manager's monologue is the source of truth. So often undeserving candidates gets pushed out based on pretext reasons (mentioned in legal PIP document) to meet double digit % of forced PIP targets. Reading such lies about yourself in the emails and the legal documents to be signed, is mentally disturbing and confidence crushing. The average stay in a team at Amazon is less than one year, and the average stay in Amazon is less than 1.5 years. That is why Amazon is always hiring. Managers are rarely PIP'ed for poor performance.

Eh, like everything I think it really depends. There are some awesome managers out there that make your life much easier. There are also a lot of shitty ones. I'd make sure to try and get a good feel for your hiring manager when interviewing or during team match. That's what I did and I'm a fan of my manager and team. I will say though some other teams I've worked with are just terrible.

Thanks for the the thorough response, is it the same if I was going in there as a dev manager? I feel the perspective you have given is from an IC's perspective. Generally as a manager I deeply care about my team and their happiness, would it still be challenging to maintain that?

Yes it is SSPA. In Amazon it is okay to join other orgs without interviewing again, so you can look into that
