Hello Everyone, I have received offers from Sumo Logic and Microsoft. It's a tough decision to choose one out of both. I want your guidance in weighing the options based on certain parameters. a. Tech Stacks: Sumo Logic: Java & Scala (Highly demanded) Microsoft: C++/.Net/C#/C/Asp.Net etc. (Slightly outdated) b. Work-Life Balance: Sumo Logic: Not much idea Microsoft: Team dependent (but good wlb on high level) c. Location: US cloud-based analytics MNC Company: Remote Microsoft: HYD/BLR (India) d. Job Security: Sumo Logic: Not much information about layoffs Microsoft: Past layoffs and negative Glassdoor reviews regarding job security e. Brand Name: Microsoft >>> Sumo Logic My personal prioritization for decision factors will be: Tech-stack and stability (job security) >> Brand name >> Work-life balance >> Location Your insights could greatly assist me in making this important decision. Thank you in advance for your help! #engineer #interview #it #microsoft #faangm
Offered TC?
Base component is relatively the same in both the orgs somewhere around 26L-27L (INR) but the only difference is stocks. Unfortunately stocks component is 0 in sumo , but msft is offering the standard stocks which are close to ~ 8L(INR) per year, which usually vest completely in 4 years.
Hey, I live your attitude towards learning, but Microsoft is the clear choice for you. 1. The TC is much higher, sets you up for a great financial future and you can take care of your family as well. 2. Even if the learning is less, I've realised over the years that learning can happen on your personal time also, you just have to put in the effort. 3. Your resume would be off to a good start, you'd find it easier to find another ideal job with ease. Please go to Microsoft.
Stupid post. Want opinions but have nothing to contribute to the community (TC YOE or gtfo)
YOE : 3 years Base component is relatively the same in both the orgs somewhere around 26L-27L (INR) but the only difference is stocks. Unfortunately stocks component is 0 in sumo , but msft is offering the standard stocks which are close to ~ 15L (INR) per year, which usually vest completely in 4 years.
Microsoft obviously. Once you include the stock and bonus components their TC is almost 40% higher. More money, better brand > all else
I have read many comments in blind where people mentioned that there are very few growth opportunities in msft , there tech stack is slightly outdated and they are using tools and technologies which has very less relevance in the outer world also somebody mentioned that many teams inside ms have started pip culture. So will it be a wise decision to choose msft over sumo just for the sake of money?
It’s a huge company, you will find all kinds of teams with their own problems or advantages. Just go with a 2 year outlook. In 2 years, If Microsoft doesn’t work out, what do you have? More money and a great brand . And I can bet that companies like SumoLogic will be willing to hire you at a higher level than you’re getting now. In 2 years, if SumoLogic doesn’t work out, what do you have? Less money, a lesser known brand name and maybe better knowledge of some specific tech stack that was in demand in 2024. Tech stacks change like underwear, but the experience of good work at top companies stays longer.
What's the TC offered by both companies?
