going to law school

I am currently deciding if i should go to law school. I work in mental health earning 64K. cannot attend top law school and looking into tier 2 schools. I am terrified to make a mistake and go school and go backwards with loans and no strong income coming out of law school. Any advice?

Glut of lawyers is real.

How much does it cost? I went back to do a JD, but in a country where it was cheap. It's a valuable degree for how it teaches you to think differently, whether or not you become a lawyer.

Looking into Loyola in LA. It’s about 100K

Uber DoEet Oct 28, 2019

Can you work while studying?

Amazon ahole Oct 28, 2019

We need more lawyers. Great decision!

This app is for tech workers, you should find a more appropriate forum to ask your question.

Bullshit

why does law school interest you, OP? if you can share with us some specifics and context, we may be able to help you find a less expensive way to get to the same place. that said, i agree with Uber/DoEet in emphasizing the value of a legal education. it teaches you how to think very clearly. do it if you're intrinsically interested in or motivated toward an intellectual career. if you're just trying to get a degree to get a better paying job, i dont think it's a good choice.

Sure, law school did not really interest me when I was completing my undergrad. I got into USC for my MSW, but unfortunately as I completed that I realized I cannot help the underserved community without really knowing how to truly advocate for the whole community rather than one individual at a time. Also, throughout my life I’ve had a lot of situation where I didn’t have a voice because I did not know how to advocate for myself. I want to give a voice to those people in the same situation I was in.

Your answer is correct. Full marks.

Why?

Some law schools will cancel your debt if you go into public interest law, which it seems you're interested in. My friends did that at NYU, not sure if there are any tier 2 programs that do the same but worth looking into..

His salary is about what yours is though...

Uber DoEet Oct 28, 2019

I hear NYU is doing that for doctors as well.

What do you think is: 1. A borderline wage? 2. A good wage? 3. A great wage? And do you have complementary skills, like other languages?

Regarding complimentary skills, as this is a tech forum you could probably get a lot of great ideas on areas that may need lawyers in the future, such as blockchain, if you're interested.

@DoEet... wage question depends on location.... $80k in the midwest is middle class. SEA or SFO... poverty. A+++ for complEmentary ... correct homophone!
