Is Israel getting bad PR the reason for banning tik tok?
currently in bay area. i canceled my google onsite here and then applied to google Switzerland because i want to move ro europe. they offered to interview me here for a position there. and if all goes well it will take them 3-4 months to do immigration and bring me on board. anyone done this? also will TC for g Switzerland be comparable to g bay area? tc:350
TC in Zurich is lower: salary slightly higher but you get half the equity. Taxes and rents are lower too however
That's not what go/paycomparison says
Need to check pay comparison. If it’s half equity it’s scary.
Not sure if you have a family. But healthcare, for example, is free, so as kids education
Not free, in fact one of the most expensive ones in Europe. But the system is still much more reasonable than US and won't bankrupt you for no reason. Worst case you'll pay about 6-7k per year per head before insurance fully kicks in and takes over.
Healthcare is not free here, not sure where you got that from.
Just curious, do you need to know German in order to work there?
No
Aside from financials, how do you feel about the culture of Switzerland/Zürich versus US/California?
Totally different. It's much more conservative here in many ways. Good and wholesome for families, but probably very boring for someone accustomed to the conveniences and action of the US. It feels like an overgrown village here.
Base is the same. Refreshers are much less. And others said, housing is less, but food and everything else is 2-4x as expensive. It’ll be a wash mostly for you unless you’re a US citizen, which means you will have to pay US federal income tax. Look up the tax treaty we have with Switzerland for details. Overall, it’s not a net positive financially. But you’ll be centrally located in Europe where you can be on a high speed train to Milan in a few hours. I’d take that trade in an instant and live there for a few years.
Sounds kind of awesome. I’m surprised they have headcount.
Okay. Guess I shouldn't blow the opportunity
I used to live in Zurich few years ago and the TC should be similar to the Bay area. I know that in Amazon internals are getting better priority with international mk oves. Not sure about google
