Guess what: you’re statistically unlikely to make it to the top of your profession even if you *don’t* care about work/life balance. You can decide for yourself how you feel about gambling.
This. Most people who work long hours don't make it anywhere just like people who work fewer hours
WLB may be a myth in the US. This doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist at all or isn’t an objective to strive for, e.g. just because our education sucks doesn’t mean others aren’t doing it better. Human advancement has to accommodate human life, e.g. kids need time with parents, people need to look after one another. The world shouldn’t be looked at as one giant production line.

I'm not some C-level exec being paid millions with a golden parachute. I pick life.
Not everyone wants to be the "top" of their profession even if they could be. I'm happy with a comfortable salary and a good family life instead of a higher salary but no time with family and friends.
Either you care about WLB or not, the odds of you being top of your profession are very slim. So make a choice right now and try to not to regret it later.

I agree with the article, they’re not wrong. There might be other factors in success, but it seems at a minimum, most that are ultra successful have poor WLB.
WLB is invention of a lazy mind.
