i started at facebook as a new grad in september, so i’ll have to stay until september or give back my sign on bonus. i want to move to nyc and switch companies. if i’m applying with 1yoe for a start date of sometime in september, when should i start applying to jobs?
curious, why leave fb so quickly?
Probably some time in July? Depends on how you are applying and the company though.
June/July
Average time to get the interviews is 3 months. I advice to bitte the bullet and wait. Besides time to interview it is also wait for learn your current role
if i’m applying to companies that also have bay area offices, would i need to fly out to nyc for interviews or can i do them locally?
This depends on the company. Google will interview you locally, but other companies that have team specific interviews may request you to fly over.
Ask for remote work. Tesla allowed me to do it when I asked nicely
Interesting, didn’t know that was an option. Where do you work from if it’s not a secret?
Apply now, defer/postpone interviews recruiters will understand
We have a NYC tower. Chill as hell here

Why no one cares about the lives lost in Gaza, Israel and busy in their own lives?
Why can’t you just join fb team in nyc?
i’ve interned twice at fb and now work full time. 3 different teams and they’ve all had terrible work life balance. tbh at this point fb has left a bad taste and i don’t want to try to move offices and be stuck there for another year if i hate it.
How bad? I’d suggest staying over a year at least.
