was just offered a job for a sr director of product but the the company lowballed me. i like the job but don't want to accept an unfair salary. any suggestions on how to negotiate? base is $230k plus 15% bonus plus 500k equity over 4 years I'm currently a director at $240 base plus 18% high 200s base seems more reasonable the company maintains this is near the best they can do. any suggestions? i really like the company. company is a D series software company in SF
Maybe but still underpayment for Sr director, no?
Just tell them it's not enough, and you won't be able to accept it at that comp package. Easy stuff man, don't over think it
I’d avoid being indignant about it. It’s not “unfair” or a “lowball.” It’s their starting offer. You are well within your rights to ask for additional compensation. They’re also well within their rights to tell you to stuff it.
Thanks. This is a helpful reminder
If you are an engineering director, you should be making 2x atleast. For product, it’s a mixed bag.
What are you basing 2x on? Sounds like BS.
I don't get what is wrong with it. Base and bonus are close, but you are getting an additional $125K/yr in equity (with potential for growth). You are also getting a title increase. I don't know how much you have researched but in big tech, base salaries are kept low and standardized, the upside is all done in the equity. If you get any more, it would be in the equity. I would take whatever you can get them up to.
Seems like overpayment for a director
