citsec qr in miami, hrt algo dev in nyc, comp is similar (both 60-70k tc) My main goal is to find out whether working in quant is I'd enjoy. People i've talked to say a lot of it depends on who you're working with, so culture is pretty important to me, along with the actual content of the work. General thoughts right now: HRT seems to be the ideal place to go fulltime, but haven't heard the best stuff about their actual internship program. The team for citsec QR is pretty good, and has good wlb, and the internship seems much more fleshed out. Return offer rates are comparable as well. Citsec internship seems like much more of something I can control, whereas it seems like HRT seems to have more rng. I guess (my admittedly stupid) fear is of going to HRT this summer, getting the short end of the stick, and not being able to try to go there fulltime. Currently weighing: - Culture: HRT's seems better, but not something interns really get to experience, but honestly not by much. The citsec team has solid wlb as well, and is pretty collaborative + open. - Work: HRT has 2 rotations to citsec's 1, so I'd get to try more things, but at the same time I don't really know if I'll see if I like it unless I spend long enough on it. Overall, the internship at citsec seems more reflective of what working there fulltime would be. - Variance: Citsec team is already assigned, and it's good, HRT assigns rotations early in the summer, haven't heard the best about intern managers either. that said for ft, the risk seems a bit lower at HRT even if I (conditional on getting a return offer) get a not so good team. - Location: don't care that much but nyc > miami - Vibes: The people I've talked to from HRT have generally seemed friendlier, but theres no guarantee they're the ones I'll work with, which isn't the case with citsec. #hrt #citadelsecurities
everyone at hrt is super nice—I think it’s actually less rng because return offers aren’t dependent on team rng (whereas at citsec you work w one team and you have to go back to that team for FT usually)
Are u a PhD students? May i ask on how you did on the final round for HRT?
COL in Miami is still much lower, especially in summer months. Depends on how much of that money you need to keep.
Would be bizarre to pick an internship that pays 60k for a summer (and a return offer would pay 500k+) over the cost of living of the city the internship is in. Especially when these companies almost always provide housing. If anything I would prefer to live in nyc

Married or people who have a partner, do you still feel bored?
Definitely sounds like HRT is the better option. What were the interviews like for both of them?
Pretty standard stats/probability/algo qns for both, feel like I got pretty lucky in terms of interviewers.
Any suggestions for how to prepare for interviews?
