Always wanted to try one of these, they look kind of fun. First year in FAANG, I learned a lot from this site and there are lots of kind people here who gave me awesome advice about balding and mental health stuff. I want to return the favor however I can, hopefully I can help? Whatever I'm able to answer, I'll try to! Whatever I can't answer, I'll let you know and try to learn from it :) --- I recruit software engineers mostly, but I kind of avoid sourcing from FAANG. Nothing personal for those in faang, I'm sure you get enough recruiters in your inbox as it is! I just really like learning about different industries and talking to folks looking to jump from their smaller, less tech-heavy companies who want to come into bigger tech. If this isn't appropriate, I'll delete in the morning. YOE: 2 (1st year in faang :D ) TC: 100k
When will Amazon stop spamming to candidates about hiring?
Ah, I'm sorry about that. If you ask the folks who ping you, I think you can ask to DNC yourself. I DNC folks if they don't want to get pinged.
Stop saying FAANG!
Do you guys get any commission, recruit # based bonuses, or rsus?
Not in corporate! We just get base and sign on and equity like other fte folks.
Nothing particular comes to mind, but I had a candidate basically flame the RC for a rather innocent scheduling mix up, I didn't really enjoy working with them afterwards.
RCs do such a thankless job like they appear for an email and go away. I wonder how could someone even flame them instead of being grateful for them doing all the heavy lifting of scheduling. Setting up work meetings everyday is hassle in itself, can’t imagine how they keep crushing it day after day!
Do you get hit on from people wanting to get into Amazon?!
Why does AMZ have so many recruiters cold calling, direct messaging people but when applying through referral, I get an automated email for OA with no point of contact?
This is my attempt at ghosting you. But you seem like one of those nice recruiters. How are recruiters incentivized/measured performance on from candidate interviews? Is it often the number of offer accepts, number of candidates moved to loop, etc.
Don't want to speak on behalf of other tech companies, but my main KPI is offers extended / offers accepted :D We're not financially incentivized or anything, we get base like any other fte and thank you for the compliment!! I appreciate it Cisco :)
Thanks, Amazon for sharing that! Good to understand it to better prepare for interviews. Right out of school, I felt recruiters were gatekeepers and not really working in candidate’s best interest, the more I learn, the more I realize my success as a candidate is related to their success too!
Stop spamming my LinkedIn, especially with a huge questionnaire, hiring manager call, half day online exam, phone interview and a full day loop. Am I doing a grad exam here? I’m not interested when I do not respond.
I don't blame you for how you feel, I'd be pretty annoyed too. I'm sure it wouldn't be appropriate to DNC you directly through a DM if you don't have the best experience with amazon folks, but if you mention it to the next recruiter who tries to, I'm sure they will! At least, I hope they do.
Another question: What is one top thing that a candidate can do to make your work easier?
Ooo, I've never been asked this before. I can't speak on behalf of other recruiters, but I tell my folks that I have a huge open door policy. If they have any concerns about scheduling, compensation, or even prepping, I'll try my best to help them but I just need to know. I think some of the folks I work with then to be a bit more conservative with their feelings (which is totally okay!) If the issue is about scheduling, I love my coordinators and we can figure out a schedule that works so our offer falls in place better timeline wise with their other offers. If the issue is about compensation, for sure, let's pause and talk again and be aligned with what's going on, other offers, etc. If the issue is about prep, I'm honestly still learning how to best prep sde folks, dsa, system design materials, and all that so I'm a little weak but I do have resources / links to LC sets that my friends have used that I'm happy to share with anyone. But again, I don't want to pry it out of someone if they need help because it's a boundary I do want to respect too, right? Still figuring this out haha, but thank you for asking!
Oh, Cisco, something else came to mind today. If they are not engaged with anyone else at Amazon during the time they reach out to me for help. We have (more or less) an internal dibs system which is honestly, kind of a pain to work with but it is there for good intentions.
you avoid sourcing from faang or isn't it the other way around in reality
I tried for a week when I started! And then I kind of felt like a bot after tbh. But after speaking to folks from healthcare, government, and smaller tech companies, I kind of found my new preference.
tbh your strategy is good.
