I was supposed to fly back to New York from Hong Kong. I had been a resident of Hong Kong but also a permanent resident of USA and now live in New York. However, this time I feel so strongly about not going back to US such that I changed my mind in the last minute at the gate of the plane, and the crew had to escort me out of the airport because I already passed security. Tbh, I still have work and family in NY, but after spending vacation in HK, it really stresses me to think about going back to somewhere with horrible public transportation, smelly MTR stations, homeless everywhere, streets full of trash, rude people, cold and gloomy weather, inefficient and bureaucratic government, and of course the constant fear of safety. I know Hong Kong is no longer at its peak, but I would still hands down pick HK over NY in any day (or any US city). The tropical weather, efficient public transportation, local people who will help you in the best way they can even they do not know you at all, 100% safe anywhere anytime, extremely clean city with pleasant smells in airport/MTR, still effcient local officer, many events (I do want to give some credits to the government officials as it definitely light up the spirit during lunar new year), and the much better nature of hiking trails, mountains and seas... Is HK over? I am not a fan of the current government, but still I think HK is a good city to live in. US has its own problems and the life quality just cannot compare. I strongly suggest Americans to spend some time in Asia, places like Tokyo, Singapore or Hong Kong, and you will feel the difference. I know I have to go back soon, but I just want to spend a few more days here, it's like a ticket to paradise.#travel
How about the language in HK? I have been to Tokyo but language was the hard part.
Much better than Tokyo
Ok, cool story, but who cares? You can wherever you want. It's your life and your choices. Next time try to make up your mind before boarding, so you are not delaying 100s of other people.
You do you! You know what u want, talk to your family and eventually make a decision. Blind will always say otherwise. Good luck:)
Okay I thought it was a plane crash prediction type of story. Heard HK is now considered a 2nd tier city by the central government, western companies left for Singapore, stock market collapsed. Has it deteriorated this bad? Is Google no longer accessible without VPN?
Yes
i thought meta was full rto? also, have you tried singapore? they got a meta office there that’s really nice
Congrats, or sorry that happened, idk
Ok, now post TC or stay in HK.
I agree that NY is a far cry from the great metropolises of Asia in terms of quality of life. HK in particular has that gritty charm similar to NY’s while being far safer. And Tokyo has far better food, and not just for Japanese cuisine. Akihabara and Shinjuku are every bit as fun as the LES. Meanwhile Singapore dazzles with luxury that surpasses any that can be found in the famed boutiques on 5th Ave. Shanghai’s subway system is light years ahead of the MTA. And so on. Hard to argue here. But NY’s true treasure are its people, who are arguably the most vibrant and eclectic of any in the world. If you’re not the type to step outside your social comfort zone then I can see why you wouldn’t like NY. But I think you’d be remiss not to. It’s what makes living here worth it!
Solid social score boost.
cool story bro
