Arranging finances before marriage?

I’m in a serious relationship with my partner, who comes from a rich family but makes very little salary. I love her a lot and would like to spend the rest of my life with her. That being said, I’ve seen people around me lose half of everything they owned through divorce. Although no one plans to get divorced, I’m wondering if there are asset arrangements I can do before getting married to prevent loss of my wealth if something were to happen (partner cheating for example). My partner makes very little money, and all her wealth and spending money comes from her inheritance—which means they won’t be factored in divorce while all my money will be. So it seems unfair that basically at time of divorce only my assets will be split in half. I hate myself for thinking this way, but a close friend getting divorce got me thinking about all the negatives. Thanks in advance for input TC: 470

That's a great question for a lawyer in your state and not strangers on the internet

A well written Prenuptial agreement by a very good attorney in your state will help secure most of your assets in the event of a divorce but if you have kids by then you’ll still pay child support, which is more like a public policy in America. Good luck to you and your partner.

thanks so much! I hope I never have to even consider this hypothetical.

She already has lot of money. What will be her motivation to take half of your wealth? Focus on building a relationship, not back up plan. She will divorce you for your behaviour and not because of your money.

Motive would be revenge in the event of divorce. Even if you trust someone completely you would still feel uncomfortable with them holding a gun to your head.

If you love money more than this woman, please don’t get married

Her cash isn't immune as well. Likely it will comingle. Would suggest you don't marry.
