Mainly Mac user but can’t use it without a monitor recently. Use chrome book but it’s broken too and looking for a new laptop mainly for coding with IntelliJ, leetcoding, reading, and watching YouTube system Design , TV shows. Not into gaming or photoshop. Basically something for learning, interviewing and with bit of breaks to watch something. Don’t want another MacBook now. Prefer something Chromebook like but it can’t be used for installing IntelliJ. Have been out laptop market for many years. Now trying to research there are too many choices. Any suggestions for 14 inch laptops in range of 400 to 700$. I have been thinking about lenova Think pads but haven’t used windows laptops for quite a while for personal use. SDE2 210k #misc

Are they good? Any particular models you would recommend?
I'm not sure if they come in the price range you quoted, actually. So it might be a bad recommendation. The interesting thing about them is that they get past the Intel management engine so the computer doesn't have a weird back door, If you care about security, and on top of that it runs a linux-based distro that is pretty lightweight and can stop you from getting distracted.
I recommend the M1 Air, but if you go for something else, Ryzen is absolutely trouncing Intel at the moment, in every category. “Something with an i7” is no longer the “no-brainer” default option.
LG gram 17 in is really good, $1200, just 3lb, super lightweight.
Just get a M1 MacBook Air. Nothing comes close in terms of performance per dollar, and it’s the best selling laptop for a reason.
To add, MacBook retains their value far longer than any other laptops.
And the half-life is much longer
