I have an interview with Google for Technical Program Manager (Cloud Team). I would appreciate any tips apart from those mentioned on Glassdoor etc. Basically some really helpful tips π.
Two system design interviews and lots of project management questions
Be ready for a coding round too
Expect a minimum of two technical rounds, one of which is likely to be a whiteboard coding interview. https://www.educative.io/collection/5668639101419520/5649050225344512 is a good resource to prepare for the system design interview. I'd highly recommend using the whiteboard even for non-coding questions. Be prepared to go deep into your previous experience, and specifically how your contributed to past projects.
I am really bad at system design for highly scalable systems. Actually at Yahoo I work with a product which is used just internally. So never face problems regarding scaling etc. I can do system design for Integration etc.
How is this role different from a product manager at googl!?
Product manager decides what to build. Program manager decides how and builds it !
Well of program manager builds it, what do engineers do?
Builds it by working with engineers. Kind of oversees the project and cross functional teams.
I have cleared the 2 phone rounds. Next is onsite. Any suggestions to prepare?
Congrats, can you give us some info on the phone rounds. Or can I Pm you?
1. Tools used in the company 2. How to analyze data? I mentioned SQL. 3. Basic questions on technical project management. Both me and the interviewer had PMP. I think that helped a lot as previously I would never get Interview call for PMP from Google.
@hotblonde - tools as in ? Any other tips for the phone interview part?
