Any thoughts on Dataiku? (The technology, work culture, IPO likelihood, competitive edge, etc).
Great tech. Very competitive against the likes of Alteryx and DataRobot with a compelling differentiator (end-to-end data lifecycle vs. data prep/autoML focused). Culture is unique growing from France. Very much focused on just getting shit done, not "bro-y" at all. Obviously am a biased party, but I have very little negative to say about the company from my time here. One con I would point out is that they have implemented a lot in terms of hierarchy and training recently. I believe this is being done to prepare us for rapid growth as we are quickly expanding. I think this will be naturally ironed out over time, they are just growing like crazy and need to do so in a graceful manner.
Any insights in core ML teams ?
Technology is really good, although lacking recent languages: old Java, AngularJS are not the most interesting to work on. To be fair, some new internal products are using newer stacks and feel definitely better. Work culture used to be really chill but it's getting worse. There's now a lot of competition and IPO is being postponed every other year. Some core software engineers have left, which is definitely a bad sign. Oh and as the other dataiker said, we used to have a flat amazing hierarchy. It's not the case anymore. Don't get me wrong, Dataiku is still one of the best French tech start-ups there is. But you should be aware of the 🥜 TC, growing pressure, deprecated stack and useless hierarchy before making your choice.
I'm assuming you're product? I'm in a technical presales role and can't complain about my TC.
Yeah, and being EU-based doesn't help TC. Especially when dataiku's founder said in an interview that he'd prefer to keep product in France to pay engineers as low as possible. Incredibly stupid for a software company 🤷.
Great feedback, thank you everyone! I actually worked at some of their competitors prior to oracle. Like you mentioned, my concern is that it is a saturated market, and obviously dataiku is a top runner, but not sure how it competes against datarobot. I know datarobot culture is terrible though, they non stop fire people.. I have friends this applies to as well. Also, my thoughts are that Datarobot will likely IPO first based on what i hear and the data... do you honestly think dataiku will ipo? Some companies say that they are, and never really do unfortunately.
"Some companies say that they are, and never really do unfortunately." That's how we feel too, but who knows. If you want a quick ipo Databricks might be a better choice.
Tech looks great. Some of their middle management hires are questionable
Their omakase is pretty good.
