A recruiter reached out for a position (IC4) at Oracle in the hardware team. She mentioned about buiding servers for OCI. I am trying to find out if the compensation is in line with OCI or non-OCI (which are significantly lower). YOE: 15 TC: 160k
I was told the team is growing. I also read that Oracle plans to add 15-20 data center locations. I assumed connection between the two. I could be wrong?
Don't assume anything. Ask them what their 5 year plan is and what is their product roadmap. I had a chat (in 2017) with one of the architects of their sparc-M8. He said it was pretty good stuff for running their db and maybe cloud (not sure about cloud part) and performed better compared to whatever competition they had at the time. But they had no roadmap going forward. 2 years later all sw Giants are making some sort of hw for their cloud. On a lighter note let me know recruiter's name :p
IC4 hw you can expect TC 180-200k, definitely not OCI level. A lot of people think the entire oracle hw was laid off in 2017 but the x86 division was barely hit and has been going strong since then.
Hw2sw_, I was told the same thing by the recruiter. X86, ARM adoption caused layoffs in the spark teams. Now the HW team supports servers made specifically for Internal Oracle customers including OCI. WdWj34, is there a embedded/HW team in OCI?
No Hw team on OCI, all Hardware engineers are in HW div
Didn't they layoff the whole hw team 2 years back even when they had a good hw product? I would ask for product roadmap before jumping.
