#google #facebook L5 SWE at both. / 7 YOE I know I'm underpaid at Google. This seems like a way above average offer from Facebook. If Google were able to match, should I consider staying? Facebook offer: Base 210 Stock 700 (175/year) Bonus 15% (31,500) Signing bonus 100 (counting it as 25k) = 441.5 TC at facebook. Google current TC: 272. Half a dozen teams at Facebook have already reached out before I've even signed. : Edit : They offered 480 retention so I decided 390TC + no stress is better than 440 + a roll of the dice on team dynamics. Will revisit after perf.
Is your current TC accounting for stock growth or not?
I’d join FB. Your career progression would be much faster and the refreshers are better too.
What is your Nw and work life balance expectations?
Yes it’s top e5 offer. Do not agree to pre allocation - choose team in boot camp when you’re in and half more access to information and can chat with team members.
With E5 offer, and new 1 year PSC starting after this December, wlb should be much improved, especially if cautious with your team. Being E5 means you’re at a career level, so you can rest and vest or push yourself into the more PM like work of E6 to eventually jump to the “coveted M1”
What is the new 1 year PSC?
Take FB and if you don't like it then come back to Google within one year. Then you don't have to interview again.
What kind of scheme is this?
Google allows employee to come back within a year without interviewing. So the op can test out FB and try to see if they like it or not.
272 for L5 is pretty bad
"Half a dozen teams at Facebook have already reached out before I've even signed." Tell us how to do this lol Or Is it normal?
Yeah it's fairly normal (well, at least not unusual). There's lots of new openings/areas and not enough people hired, so teams are getting pretty proactive.
Same, spoke to 7 teams and had the option to talk to more. But at that point, it’s more confusing than helping decide! 😂
What skill set do you possess that 6+ teams are already interested?
Seems like all managers are clawing for a small set of recruits.
Just passing the bar is enough of skill. Folks rarely look into specialization and background for e3-e6 generic SWE that passed the bar is good enough. And this is the Beaty of it.
If you like Google, try and get it matched. Be very clear with your manager that you're not happy with your current compensation and given the offer its clear that it's far under market rate. They can use this as an escalation and should given your track record. I've been through fast promo and had similar issues. It's just how google comp is structured. I was able to get a extra chunk of stock to make up for it.
Match + 10% penalty for making a mistake in the first place.
Take it!
