I saw two LinkedIn posts about layoffs. Anyone have more details? What % was impacted, what roles, severance, etc #akunacapital
Lost to JS and HRT?
It was only SWEs and a few quants who got laid off.
What was the reason given
Cutting costs
About 20% of SWE were laid off. 40 in US and 25 in Australia.
Dang. What was the reason given? 2022 should have been another solid year financially
The 40 in the US wasn’t all SWE - project management, security, and IT support all hit harder. Seems like 1 person from most dev teams otherwise.
The company doesn’t respect SWEs. Huge red flag to remove people before their bonus day.
Agreed it’s a really bad look
Yes, I just saw a post on LinkedIn about a NG offer was rescinded just 5 days before the start date
Did they do ok last year, or is it normal to fire 20% every year?
I don't know if they do OK or not, but a senior manager said he has never seen anything like this for the past 6+ years, so this is not normal for the company.
What about year end bonus? Decrease, or increase? If latter for some, then they are taking advantage of the current market
Hello my fellow midzy
akuna doesn’t know how to attract talent, the successful smaller firms use high comp and the promise of ownership to try and take talent from hrt/js/cit akuna just underpays, they get worse talent, and no wonder they’re not doing well
Also they are completely unable to retain interns. Something must be wrong there
And, they are continuing to fish in new grad roles at low pay rather than either experienced hires or attracting talent with better compensation. I would not be surprised if the firm is in the ground in two-three years.
