social security (ssn) benefits once you move permanently out of US permanently
fellows. can we get back our ssn money once we move back to our home country permanently (assume you from an asian country - indonesia, india, china) . say you wont come back again to the US. Any personal experiences or friend/family member get to know experiences. please share.
Depends on the country. Some countries have treaties with the USA to payout social security, those are a handful. For others, if you are not in the USA, you can't get it.
You need to have qualified for social security, which means contributing for a minimum of ten years. Then it depends on you country, but the answer is generally yes you can collect it, but there are some restrictions.
*40 credits* it doesn't have to be 10 years. Each credit is like $1400 so you can earn 4 credits in like 1 month at a tech job. This means a summer internships could count as a whole year.
You can only earn 4 credits per calendar year, but yeah, you could get your 40 credits in 8 years + 2 months, by working from November 2019 to January 2028, and yeah an internship would count as a year, but a full year of working also only counts as a year. To get maximum benefits you need 35 years at or above 120k/yr but to get the minimum qualification that is all you need.

Thank you all for inputs. Let’s assume one completes 10 yrs or 40 credits requirement with ssn. Do they still require to hold till they reach 60 age to reap the benefits.was a much real question. ssn website doesn’t answer this question specifically .? Any thoughts On this.?

You can't get your SSN tax paid back to you if that's what you are asking. But you can receive SSN payments after age of 65 if you worked for more than 10 years.
In terms of applying I assume you can apply from outside the country but worst case you just come back on a visitor visa and apply. As long as you have your ten years it won't matter if they were recent or not.
To apply you need a current us address. And it stop after 6 months I guess if the address isn't current. In case you have relatives perhaps you can give their address as yours, but not sure if you can keep doing it
First, I don't know that's true. Second, you can stay up to six months on a visitor visa, plenty of time to apply, and benefits definitely continue after you leave
yes u can when u reach the age, old folks in my country do this a lot. they go home once they reach the age to get their ssn
