Has anyone worked for Jacobs company? Please let me know your perspective and how growth is? And opportunities?
Sales Business Intelligence Analyst&Developer and yes I do.
So the culture is honestly pretty darn good, workload is always fair, boring at some points. The compensation is extremely poor for anything below manager positions, 10% below market pay is what gets you the brand recognition. My team lead didn’t get a bonus for 7 years, and when he got one is was less than 5%. So if you want this to be a stepping stone then sure, go for it, but tbh once you look around more you’ll want to leave because you’re gonna be very under valued. My review performance was basically “you’re doing really really well, so we’re gonna give you one point below the promotion level because you haven’t been here long enough to get a raise” I’ve been working above my level since starting and the entire management team knows I deserve it. So some shitty corporate management gets to decide your fate. Offered me a laughable retention bonus to try to keep me on, joining a new company at the start of the year. But honestly, I loved my team and feel bad leaving because they’re gonna have a tough time filling my position. All of my newer engineer friends are wanting to leave to get better pay.
So currently the job im at I dont like much. They are paying me 95k. New offer is 105k but im pushing for $110k. I dont think there is a bonus but its still higher then what I am making. I do however have 16 company holidays and 25 days pto. Thats the major W this old company I have. However, is Jacobs a big brand to have on resume?
So join if you dont have other offers and need experience to get a new job, or if you want a fairly chill company with very good culture. But just know you’re gonna be very underpaid for your entire career there, until you are managing an entire department, which is the only person who sees a bonus, and tbh I imagine even he’s underpaid without that.
I wouldn’t entirely agree with your statement about being underpaid your entire career. I mean.. no, you’re not going to get paid like if you worked at a big tech firm (but it’s not a big tech firm) and if you had the experience and abilities to work (and get paid like you work) at a big tech firm then you’d be there. But as far as my experience with them… it depends on how good you are at your job, what business unit you’re in, and your location. Also, you should know your market value and be able to advocate for yourself. Don’t just ask for a raise because you want one… have the information (market value, recent accomplishments, etc) to back up the ask. But those things apply to most companies (not just Jacobs).
I agree with that @pi. my manager is a tightwad lol. He makes us use PTO if projects are slow rather than cut into his overhead, a lot of our other departments don’t do that.
Hey there? I’m interested to grow my career in Jacobs, I’m a Civil engineer with master’s degree and 2 years of experience. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Network would be the best thing you could do.
