So, my company is forcing me to come back in january. I am planning on using my friends CA address and then just commuting back to CO every week. Basically 2 nights in Cupertino and 5 nights in Denver. Is this pretty straightforward tax wise? Just use the CA address in workday and just pay taxes for CA?
IMO nothing is easy tax wise in the US. Don't know about Colorado but if the states were flipped and you were in CA for 5 nights and planning to not pay CA tax they would object to that.
Google is assuming he works out of CA. Otherwise they readjust his income.
@IBM Can you elaborate more? I don't understand what you mean.
If you ever get caught, CA will come with full force at you to set an example!
CA would not have an issue in that example as the OP is planning to pay CA tax.
Sure. Company will fire him first then lol
Yes you might get fired if they find out about it. Better to negotiate for remote position..if I am not wrong, CO if living around Denver is still is MCOL area and will only affect your TC a little?
Your IP address will tell
should i just pay taxes in both states?
Dude. Wtf? Climate change. U entitled polluter.
If u rent two places and actually show u pay in both u might be able to balance the income tax to both?
What if u have two places in Texas and Colorado let’s say and most of time are in Texas. Texas has no income tax. What do u do?
So end up having to pay full taxes in Colorado if most of time is in Texas because you have a place in Colorado? Can you maybe balance it and say I was in Texas most of year and pay partial to Colorado?
I wonder how are you going to fly San Francisco -> Denver every Friday and back every Sunday? It’s not going to happen.
we have hybrid work approved tuesday-thurs in the office. so fly in tues am leave thirsday pm. its actually less commuting then i was doing driving from sf to mountain view m-f before the pandemic. the added bonus of getting frequent flier miles
You guys are why this world has no chance against global warming.
if you live in CO but pay CA tax you are evading CO tax
