Seems like a lot of the chat apps on the phones are just reinventing the wheel based off stuff that's already in the desktop chat apps 30 years ago. And remember CompuServe?

Skype was one of the first to make video calls accessible. They dropped the ball during COVID. It should've been them instead of zoom.
They were on phones. At least AIM.
Text messages. Also integrating a business app on your personal phone wasn't a common thing back then. Also the Nokia line was the most popular mobile phone, which didn't really do apps (tiny screen).
