why r some uber dudes intentionally making uber look bad? or is it how it is? uber employees comment please.
Uber culture is fine. Of the companies I have worked for, uber is the least political one. It puzzles me why some dudes would jump on every uber thread bitching about uber. I personally enjoy working here. Smart people all around and great speed of execution. There is very little title inflation here though. So you might be disappointed if you expect title promotion every few quarters.
Yeah it seems like many of the same people are trash talking and spending a lot of time venting on blind. It's possible that they might be on a pip or not at the company anymore but I don't want to make any assumptions. Personally, I love the work I do and the people I work with.I like how no one tells me what to work on and that I can come up with my own projects. I just need to convince people that they are impactful and will make uber great! I'm really surprised ppl have such negative feelings but I guess they can hide it.
Most of my team gets in at 10:30 and leaves by 6. People take 1 hr lunch on avg. Thought it was just my floor but 555 in general is pretty empty by 6:30 or so.
Funny how the most liked defense makes uber look bad. Why are so many people on PIPs? If you're going to fire a lot, at least pay in cash like finance companies or Netflix so you're taking away options people can't afford to exercise.
This coming from a Microsoft guy. Halt your team has probably interviewed at Uber in the last 12 months. I can't go a week without seeing one of you on my calendar.
You guys set the record for the most insecure and defensive people on blind. Congrats. Microsoft is a mess but at least we're not in denial about it.
OP, do you want to admit that you are entertaining an Uber offer? Let's talk about that. Which team? How much?
Uber is a tough environment and not for everyone. The hiring bar is high so Uber mostly hires smart people who have been successful before. However, the environment, culture and leadership will not support and set up these people for success. This results in low confidence, frustration and burn out. It's just not worth it! Yes, few teams are lucky and have good leadership but majority are chaotic. The brand name is still sexy so many want to join and regret it after few months. The Uber experience does make you stronger as a person but it can also break you down if you don't have a good support system outside work.
Politics that impact your salary, bonus, force u to be on pip or fired suck big time! Most of the engineers on pip were high performers in life. It's really hard for these people as they see no logic in perf review. There are engineers promoted who have not delivered anything. Unfortunately, unhappy people don't leave bcos of stock and then vent here.
^^^this sounds as total bs.
Haha!!!
There's a lot of low performers on pips. Most people trashing uber are the same 20-30 engs. The other issue is that some engs don't want us to hire more people because they are afraid it will hurt their RSU's through dilution. I worked at FB, Google and Amazon. This place is no different than any where else.
I don't think that's how dilution works...
+1000! Uber has over 3000 services with overlaps left and right, and I'm sure FB/Google/Amazon are no different. Uber's private blind channel is full of angry and bitter discussion of company culture, and I'm sure FB/Google/Amazon are no different. Uber outsources its HR function to Huffington, blaming its employees for not being able to manage stress, and I'm sure FB/Google/Amazon are no different. Uber's HR use headcount to measure company growth, boasting that Uber grew faster than Google and FB, and I'm sure FB/Google/Amazon are no different. It takes half an hour for a Uber engineer to see her one-line configuration change take effect if she's lucky, and I'm sure FB/Google/Amazon are not different. On the other hand, FB/Google/Amazon built all kinds of game changing systems, and I'm sure Uber is no different. Uber on!
