I have had a strange experience with uber recruiters. A recruiter reached out to me for an info chat four months ago. I thought I had nothing to lose, and I am a team lead with a big team, so it is always useful to hear how they staff their teams even if things do not work out. So I agreed, but then she went on vacation and did not follow up for a few weeks. I asked, and she then connected me with the 2nd recruiter, who did not follow up for three months. I emailed to ask if anything had changed and she said she changed a team within uber and forwarded me to a 3rd. The 3rd finally set up a meeting for me with the hiring manager and we confirmed the time and my number via emails. I waited for half an hour in a conference room at our agreed time slot, but nobody called...then I sent an email to ask if there was a change in the hm's availability and she did not respond. I was courteous and professional throughout the 4 month process (hardly called a process lol) but I am very disappointed how I was not respected by all three of them, esp considering none of them actually spoke with me....uber folks, is there a way for me to escalate to their managers? I find this experience quite unacceptable.
Pm me names and I'll follow up. Tbh our recruiting is a shit show so whether this will accomplish anything is dubious
just sent you a message. thanks for offering to help.
Got an offer from Uber, it matched My LinkedIn one exactly. Recruiter couldn't understand why I didn't want to take it.
Curious question: are your recruiters contractors, hourly, or full time salary?
Full time, our engineers are hourly contractors...it's a nice dynamic actually.
You were probably contacted by technical sourcers, not experienced recruiters. Big difference.
Why would sourcers be any less professional? Or is there a history of sourcer-specific complaints at Uber?
bigger question..why uber ?
It was explained. "so it is always useful to hear how they staff their teams even if things do not work out".
yeah..why uber ?
My experience with Google has not been a whole lot better but surely not this bad
Uber recruiting and interview process is shit. From personal experience. Go Lyft.
I had the opposite experience. Lyft recruiter was not very responsive. Uber recruiter was. (I am not a fan of Uber, this is what I experienced).
@T Rex really? I also interviewed with Lyft and Uber. the Lyft recruiter was super nice, always followed up right away. Uber was kinda impersonal and didn't seem to care about me, and my technical interviewer left me feeling offended when the engineer insulted the university I graduated from... it was an odd experience to say the least
Let's all agree that recruiting is its own entity and mostly does not accurately reflect the company.
let's all agree that Uber HR is its own entity and does not accurately reflect the company.
let's all agree that TK is his own entity and does not accurately reflect the company.
to be fair, since the 3rd recruiter never responded to me, it is possible that the hiring manager just decided a no-show and did not bother to provide a reason to the sourcer, which would put her in a delicate spot. I find this speculation possible esp given how uber folks mentioned on this thread 1). "sourcers vs recruiters, big difference"; 2). "recruiting is its own entity", both of which seem to imply that sourcers might not be respected equally internally.
That is correct. Pm me and I'll set you up on a call with a director on Marketplace.
Don't bother going to Marketplace. Worst org than even HR.
Clearly they don't give a shit about you, why do you care? Going from G to Uber feels like a downgrade to me
