I had to resign last fall to care for my wife as she was going through a health care crisis. My wife is much better now and I’m ready to return to work. Does anybody have any advice on how to best approach the situation? My manager said that I should reach out if I’d like to come back but it’s been 7 months so I don’t want to assume it’s an easy process or come off as entitled. TC 270k
Sure
+1. Good luck. Also apply externally as well. Keep your options open.
Hope your wife is doing ok!
Did u have to resign? Did you look into FMLA? Its meant for such situations. I know its water under the bridge now. Asking out of curiosity and preparing myself if I ever get into such a situation
No I didn’t have to resign, and I never felt pressured, but I had stopped and returned to work a few times in a year and I didn’t want to do it again, the back and forth was becoming disruptive. I did have the option of going on a non-paid leave during my wife’s recovery, I regret not doing that. I used all of the available FMLA and family support time while figuring out what the problem was. I don’t know what I would have done without those benefits. The family support time is an Intuit benefit. My manager was supportive throughout and I consider myself lucky that I was at Intuit during a difficult time.
Thank you for the response. Good luck

I would just reach out to your previous manager and your previous HR person if you know who that was. Be humble, as you seem to be here. Let them know you would really love to join intuit again. Let them know you'll probably need to find an open role and do an a4a, and ask them if they could do you a favor as an alum who left on good terms and help you find a role that's a good fit. Good luck!
